Stuttgart is the state capital of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The city has 597,939 inhabitants, so it is the largest city of this province. Stuttgart was formed about 950 from a stud farm by the Alemanni Duke Liutolf and is divided into 23 districts. The town received city rights in the 13th century. The deepest point of 207 m is on the Neckar lock Mayrhofen in Mühlhausen district, the highest 549 m is high, the large slope is located in the Vaihingen district, near the highway. Because of the numerous hills within the larger city there are numerous stairs (Stäffelen). The Stuttgart TV Tower is the landmark. From its observation deck one has a beautiful panoramic view of the city, but the deck is actually closed for visitors since the end of March 2013. The cityscape is characterized by many hills and vineyards, valleys and parks (eg the Castle Garden). Various castles in Stuttgart and the surrounding area are among the most popular sights of Stuttgart. In the Old Castle is since 1948 the Württemberg State Museum located, where you can learn about the country's history from the Stone Age to modern times. A special attraction is the Weißenhofsiedlung, a quarter which was created in 1927 in the pattern of modern architecture.
