Zadar

Zadar is a city in Croatia, Dalmatia province. Zadar has about 75,000 residents, yet the finest examples of Romanesque buildings in Croatia are located here, such as the Cathedral of St. Stošija from the 13th century. The largest city in the north of Dalmatia impresses with magnificent monuments from Roman times. The most popular attraction is the pre-Romanesque church of St. Donat from the 9th century. The harbor is always a popular meeting place and many student pubs characterize the color of this vibrant and romantic city, too. The Old City houses the most interesting buildings. It is located on the peninsula of the city at the port. A long bridge leads across the harbor from the new town in the charming old town. The flat beach is always busy in the summer. The northern part of the Dalmatian coast with its largest urban center in the three thousand years old city of Zadar is also called 'the gateway to the Natural Park' because of its unique geographical location opens the door to five protected areas, which can be visited in a day trip. Paklenica, the cataracts of the Krka, Plitvice Lakes, North Velebit and the Kornati islands offer breathtaking beauties. The canyons of Velika and Mala Paklenica, with its rock walls for climbing, are for all nature lovers and hikers a real challenge.

By airplane:
Zadar is the fifth biggest airport of Croatia about 9 kilometers outside the city centre.
There are connections with Germanwings to Barcelona, Warsaw and Cologne, Ryanair to London, Brussels and Dublin and Croatia Airlines to Pula, Zagreb.
